Enhanced Spell Focus
Like a warrior has a sword and an archer a bow, many spellcasters have a focus of some sort. Enhanced foci are useful in that they can eschew the need for material components, or allow the use of level 7+ spells that require such focuses. They come in many forms: staves, wands, scepters, vajra, holy symbols of all kinds, crystals, and whatever else can be fashioned into a focus.
Common Foci
These basic spell foci each cost 15 gp. More elaborate materials, decoration, or custom designs can cost more, as chosen by the player. Weight, Shatter Resistance, and HP depend on the chosen construction and are not specified for these basics.
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Wand | 15 gp |
| Holy Symbol | 15 gp |
| Fetish | 15 gp |
| Crystal | 15 gp |
Wand: A small rod used to direct spellcasting.
Holy Symbol: A religious emblem used as a spellcasting focus.
Fetish: A charm or collection of small objects used as a spellcasting focus.
Crystal: A crystal used to channel spellcasting.
Each variety is available with +1 through +5 enhancement. Add the enhancement cost below to the base item's cost.
Enhancement
Enhancement grants a bonus equal to the enhancement of the focus to any spell that requires an attack roll. Foci also grant an equivalent number of bonus spell slots. So if a character has a +5 focus, they have 5 free spell slots to be broken up as five 1st-level spells, one 5th-level spell, and everything in between. These spell slots can also be used to apply metamagic to a spell currently being cast, so long as the user has the feat. These spell slots regenerate every morning. Some spells require foci of a certain enhancement to even be cast. If the cost of the spell focus is five times greater than the material cost for a spell, the material component can be ignored.
